Sony photo converter9/20/2023 ![]() ![]() “Camera arrived this afternoon – took a few IR photos handheld, ran them through Monochrome2DNG and was blown away by the results - thanks for doing such a great job.–Jonathan Sachs, a7R II(m)” “The A7rII(m) is a sheer joy to use. I currently use the following cameras as demo units for the work on this site: NEX-5N, NEX-5R, NEX-7, a7, a7R and a7R-II If you would like to convert something other than a Sony, please see this page for more details about the process. I have successfully converted the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G6. Want something that will do well in low light? go with the S model, or the a7 III. This model best mimics film’s tonal transitions with its high resolution 42.4 MP full-frame sensor. My recommended conversion is of the Sony a7R II. I convert APS-C and full-frame sensors of all resolutions. All other features continue to function as expected, such as focus peaking, the zebra function etc. But the Contrast Detect AF does continue to work. Please note: the only minus you can expect from a conversion is that the Phase Detect AF no longer functions on the models that have that feature. The use of increased ISO with less objectionable effects. The camera has a more film-like response high ISO noise looks cleaner.Increased Resolution & Sensitivity, see HERE.What are the benefits you should expect from using a converted camera? ![]() I call this the poor man’s Leica Monochrome. Please look through the Galleries and the Technical section to learn how well the conversion works. You can use Leica lenses on these Sony cameras, and virtually any lens ever made will adapt. I have also converted the Nikon Z6 camera model, and can do the Z7 as well.Ĭonsidering the Leica Monochrome? Don’t want to pay the heavy price? Consider this conversion as an alternative. I have also converted the RX1 series of cameras as well, and now the a9. Sample images can be seen in the sample galleries menu above. I have converted the a7R II, and the a7R III, and the a7 III to monochrome. I am proud to now offer conversion services for the Sony Mark II and Mark III series of cameras. The first a9 Monochrome was finished recently, and it will be added to the list of cameras that can be converted here at Monochrome Imaging Services. Just finished converting the Sony a9 to monochrome. You can also opt for a bare sensor monochrome conversion for use with wide angle range finder lenses. I can also convert these cameras to be sensitive to IR light, either Full Spectrum, or at a given wavelength of your choice. Specializing in the conversion of Sony mirror less cameras to monochrome (B&W) by removing the Color Filter Array (CFA) from the digital sensor, also known as sensor de-bayering. You can use Lightroom to do the conversions it's available with a perpetual license, at least for now.Welcome to Monochrome Imaging Services Over 200 conversions and counting! So you don't have access to the newer versions of ACR, because you're on CS5? Besides the Sony product:ĭNG converter doesn't actually do the demosaicing, it just passes the data to the ACR module in your version of Ps in a form that it can grok. Other converters? You have lots of choices. So you don't have access to the newer versions of ACR, because you're on CS5? You can use Lightroom to do the conversions it's available with a perpetual license, at least for now. Is the Adobe DNG converter the best for this purpose, or is there another option which gives a better quality conversion? I'm open to possibly getting another type of software, but do not intend on using the new on-line only Adobe product. I open them with Adobe CS5 and tweak the files with camera raw. I believe there may be some workflow enhancements that I might be able to suggest if I understand his present workflow. I was asking the OP what *he* did with the DNG file, not what can be done with a DNG file. Might be overkill for some.but its an option thats there if needed. where as a raw file from your camera may not open in other apps because that app has not been updated with the specs.Īll raw files from camera mfg are unique and require updates to your app.Ĭase in point if someone gave you an A7R II right now, guess what!!! Lightroom would not know what to do with it.īut you could convert it to a DNG using sony image converter and than open it. A DNG file will open in capture one pro, dxo pro, photoshop, LR and many other apps. Maybe someone else can explain the science of it. Where as with raw files there will be whats called side cars or extra info thats not included in the raw file.ĭNG might be considered more powerful as its what adobe, "prefers" DNG files are bigger because it separates the RGB values plus includes xmb info, all data is in one file. What do you do with the DNG files once they're converted?Ī DNG file is more universal. I've been using the Adobe product and was wondering if I was missing something. ![]()
